Ending a turn with five or six vowels is one of the most common problems intermediate players face. Knowing which words dump three or four vowels at once — while still scoring reasonably — is an essential piece of your toolkit.
Best vowel-dump words by length
ADIEU and AUDIO are the most useful: both use five tiles, four of which are vowels, and they score modestly but cleanly. URAEI (plural of uraeus, the royal cobra symbol) is a five-vowel standout that experienced players keep in memory.
When to use vowel dumps vs. exchange
If you can score at least 8 points while dumping three or more vowels, play the word. If your best vowel-dump scores fewer than 6 points and you have four or more vowels, consider exchanging instead — especially early in the game when the tile pool is large.
Rack goal: After your vowel dump, aim to leave yourself with 2–3 vowels and 4–5 consonants including at least one common letter (R, N, S, T, L). That's the foundation for a strong next turn.
